**Module 01: Keyboarding PracticeComputers 9 students are expected to practice their typing skills daily to build speed and accuracy. The program below provides progressive practice opportunities. Occasional tests will be given to test progress. The recorded sheet provided must be used to record progress. Students will store it in their document folder for Computers 9 and post it on the website when required to do so.
You have been shown the program below, but we will be trying a new one.
Your typing program is found at
https://www.freetypinggame.net/Default.asp Your teacher has provided you with a username and password. On Fridays, in typing time, try out this game:

Save a copy of this sheet in your documents to be submitted later to Google Classroom.
Please Practice for 10-15 minutes every day.
**Module 02: MS WordInformation Processing is a course available to Grade 10/20/30 students and the lessons help them to be more efficient with technology for the preparation of assignments for other classes. Efficiency with MS Word is just one aspect of what is taught in the course. There are four parts to this unit. All assignments must be added to the student's webpage in the appropriate location.
The assignment sheet file and corresponding story are attached below. Lessons have been given in class and working time is provided in the home periods. **Students, please remember that the poster is to include animals instead of featuring a school event (since there are none going on currently). Photos can be copied from the Internet, and you do not have to take photos. See the sample posters below.
Poster - Students will make a poster using Google Slides. Specifics to follow. Here is a nice one done by Brianna, and another done by Kurt. Notice that it has the following:
1. a coloured background 2. The title, "My Favourite Animals" 3. Your name. 4. At least four animals placed in an attractive arrangement on the page (note that a poster is only one page). Due on these dates (go by your Elective #):

5. Go to the Google waffle again and choose Google Classroom. 6. Choose our class, Computers Elective.
7. Open Classwork. 8. Select the assignment you want to submit. 9. Choose Create to attach your work from Google Drive. 10. Hit "Turn in" and you are done. **Module 03: SpreadsheetsStudents will complete three assignments using Excell. These spreadsheet assignments help students learn to make charts and graphs to support their data. The attachment includes the detailed instructions and the three parts of the assignment for student reference.

Module 05: Responsible Cell UseClass discussion: Pros and cons of cell phone use. Make a T-chart list to display here. A class recorder will keep notes and give them to Mrs. Bitner to uipdate the chart below.
Students from both Computers 9 classes held discussions and made notes about the Pros and Cons of cell phone use at school. We agree that there are many positive aspects, but know that harm is also a significant consideration.
Assignment: On your website, on the cell web page, write a two paragraph piece:
paragraph 1 - Write about how you use your phone responsibly (see the above list, you prepared as a class, for ideas). Use the topic sentence, "There are several ways that I use my phone responsibly". Follow the topic sentence with four supporting statements telling how you do. paragraph 2 - Write about how you must learn to do better so that the cons above are not a problem for you. Use the topic sentence, "There are several ways that I can improve the way I use my cell phone". Follow the topic sentence with four supporting statements telling how you can improve. Due date: One of the positive ways we can use our cell phones is for organization.
Module 06: Digital CitizenshipNot included in the shortened Elective Course
An understanding of Digital Citizenship is vital in today's world. Following the lesson, students will create an animated video depicting an aspect of Digital Citizenship. A link to the video must be placed on the student's website.
Digital literacy is the set of competencies required for full participation in a knowledge society. It includes knowledge, skills, and behaviors involving the effective use of digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs for purposes of communication, expression, collaboration and advocacy. A digital citizen refers to a person utilizing information technology (IT) in order to engage in society, politics, and government participation. Ribble, 2015. See http://www.digitalcitizenship.net/Nine_Elements.html
Assignment:
Check out this site that shows you how to add speech to your characters. Note that the video talks about recording your voice, but in the you will see that you can add "text to speech" instead. Choose this option and you will be able to choose previously recorded/computer voices to lip-sync your text.
