Note: This course began on Monday, February 1, 2021. Final Presentations will be given on Monday, March 22, 2021 (Group A) and Tuesday, March 23, 2021 (Group B).
For my classes, please check your Office 365 email on a regular basis. You go to Office 365 and access the account with your username (i.e. [email protected]) and usual password. That is where you go to see my emails (personal or group). ComMedia students post assignments on their websites as always, but use email to ask questions.
To help you plan, I have added the calendars for the next two months. Please be aware, however, that this schedule is subject to change at any time as determined by the Chief Medical Officer, School Division, and/or school administrators.

Please note that the Modules with ** in front of the title will be covered in 2020-21. Due to the reduction in class/teacher direct contact, some parts of the curriculum needed to be touched on in other units.
**Module 01: Introductory Video & Website ConstructionAn Video of Introduction - Home Assignment (this assignment is also shown under the calendar where Home Assignments are listed).
Please do the assignments below in order. We will place them on your website once you have it built.
Paragraph b. Select something that is special to you and focus the camera on that for a brief time while you talk about it (i.e. your dog, a piece of art, your guitar, your mom, if she agrees to be filmed). If you film outside, the lighting will be better, but you can film indoors if the area is brightly lit. Paragraph c. Turn the camera back on yourself and tell about one of your favorite things to do (different than b.). We are going to post these videos on our Home page on the websites we will be building. Don't worry. The websites are private so the public cannot view them. For now, save your video in your phone, in your computer, or on a memory stick. Due Date: Friday, February 5, 2021 Building a Website - Class Assignment
Students will be instructed as to how to build a website in weebly.com. This website will only be visible to Mrs. Bitner and the student. Of course, the expectation is that all assignments are shared with the parent(s). All the student accounts are within Mrs. Bitner's school account for security reasons. Each student is assigned a username, but selects their own private password. This allows the student to work at the website at home. Mrs. Bitner has an administrator's password which allows her to see all student websites for maintenance and marking. Only specified material can be placed on this site since it is for class use only. If inappropriate material is placed on the site, it will be removed or the website will be removed and the student will need to start again from scratch. Students must place all assignments, as directed, on their own website for marking. It is important that students hit Publish once the assignment is added or the instructor will not be able to see the assignment. In addition to the assignments, the following must be completed. These items count toward the website setup mark.
Due Date: Friday, February 12, 2021 **Module 02: Media Role & InfluencesIn class, we will watch the video called "Methods of Communication". Following this, students will be expected to utilize the "Types of Communication Medium" website to learn about the various Physical and Mechanical Medium we use to communicate. The assignment consists of completing a Word document research assignment and posting it on your website on the "Roles" page.
Date Due: Friday, February 5, 2021
**Module 03: Shots & Production StagesAssignment 1: Variety of Shots
The first assignment involves using a variety of shots and movements with your video camera. Check out the video and external links below for ideas. Your assignment is to make your "Shots" webpage on your website. You are to provide a well-worded definition of each type of shot and to provide a visual sample of each shot. See the sample below. Use the checklist to see which shots must be done. Sample
Follow the same layout for each type of shot on the checklist below.

Note: the article below has an active link you need to click in order to see the article to use for research.
Read Behind the Scenes: A Simple Explanation of the Video Production Process link shown in External Resources below. There are three important stages to any video production. If one steps is done hurriedly, the entire video will not be successful. Read the document. You may also check out the Lynda.com tutorials.
We will study each stage in detail and work through assignments for practice before we begin the Final Project for the course. Using the resources you watched/read above, fill in the attached assignment sheet for marks. Save As (into My Documents/ComMedia 10) the entire sheet prior to beginning the assignment. A completed assignment will be a full page). Be thorough. When you are done, attach a file link to the completed assignment on your Stages web page.

Five Reasons Why Video is the Future of communication Behind the Scenes: A Simple Explanation of the Video Production Process Lynda.com tutorials **Module 04: Career OpportunitiesWe will cover this module in depth in ComMedia 20. In this course, we will do a 15 minute ungraded session online in a Wednesday session.
Lesson for online (Google Meet) at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.
I introduced the topic, then gave you time to explore the site. https://www.careeronestop.org/Videos/CareerVideos/career-videos.aspx Then you came me back online to discuss what you have learned about one area of Communications Media that you could consider in your future. Students who did not attend and participate in the online class did not receive credit for the assignment in PowerSchool. In this unit, students must explore potential careers in media production. These two resources are valuable to provide research data.
In module 04 "Career Opportunities" on your website, create an attractive display with pictures and text showing the "employability skills" that you already possess (see the brochure below). Using the Department of Employment and Social Development article, explore the kinds of job that you could get in communication (use this as your key word for a search). On the same web page, add another section to describe one of those jobs in detail. Once again, use various elements to enhance your website.
Sample Assignment Part 1Here is an example of what your web page for the first part of the assignment
might look like. Make it personal by talking about your own skills, attitudes, and behaviours. Be sure to credit, somewhere on your page, the Employability Skills 2000+ brochure from http://www.conferenceboard.ca/spse/employability-skills.aspx
Sample Assignment Part 2**Module 05: Legal & Ethical IssuesCommunications Media 10 students explore copyright and online safety. The work done in this module builds into the final project.
Assignment: Part One - Safety Precautions You must plan for personal safety whenever you design a video script/production. Stunts and pranks have limited value in your final production. Before you even start scripting, you must plan for your safety and that of your actors/crew.
Part Two - Research - Ethics in Film-Making Choose one of the following options and do a well-researched approximately one page paper that is in your own words, includes corresponding creative commons images, and has an attractive lay-out:

Follow your script carefully to get the shots and movements you want. My video follows the script (see Module 06) exactly and the timing quite closely. Sometimes you will find the script needs to be adjusted somewhat due to changes in the environment or timing of an event. There is flexibility, but it is best to have a solid plan and make minor adjustments as you go.
